Group Tutoring or Private tutoring?

Both types of tutoring have their advantages. Private sessions tend to work better for students who prefer to work alone or have a lot of information to cover in a short time. They are also very useful for reviewing before a big test. Group Tutoring sessions are more affordable and allow students to work independently while having an instructor close by to help. We encourage most students to try Group Tutoring at some point in their work here, as independence is essential for building confidence!

How often should we come?

Rebuilding math skills is similar to going to the gym to get in shape – it's hard to make much progress if you only go every now and then. Coming twice a week or more helps us not only cover more information faster, but also drastically improves retention of the skills learned. Once we get your math brain in shape, you can reduce visits to more of a maintenance plan coming once a week.

Do you do house calls?

We find that students tend to do better in a dedicated learning environment where they are not distracted by home events (siblings watching tv, playing video games, etc..), nor feel they are on their 'home turf'. At our office, we can use a wide range of curricula and learning aids that we don't have access to at students' homes.

Additionally, the variability of traveling distance makes it difficult to maintain consistent prices for house visits. By having Group Tutoring sessions, we can address the needs of many students at one time, thus providing more students the chance to get the help they need at more affordable prices.
